Celtic Wave

18.5" Diameter

SOLD!

The Celtic Wave is based on a classic Celtic trefoil pattern that has morphed into a watery wave pattern. It features three custom made hand blown roundels, custom made jewels and German hand blown sheet glass. It comes ready for hanging in a lead frame.

Murrini Garden

34" x 40"

The Murrini Garden is the first of its type in the history of stained glass. Murrini, typically used to create beautiful bowls and vases, are decorative bits of glass that are heated and melted together to create a pancake of glass that can then be formed into a bubble and blown into a vessel, or in its miniature form to create millefiori paperweights. The hand blown roundels in the window are composed of murrini, cane flowers and chunks of colored glass. Larger flowers are created using a “wrap and rake” technique often seen in Tiffany favrile vases. Filling the space between the roundels are hand blown “antique” style glass and faceted jewels from Germany, and cane flowers. The design was inspired by Victorian architectural drawings of palatial gardens. The Murrini Roundel series are completely unique in the world of stained glass.  Set in wood frame suitable for hanging or installed in architectural opening.

Murrini Garden Two

30.5" x 41.5"

Murrini Garden Two is the next evolution of the use of murrini roundels in creating a stained glass window. The roundels are highly complex and experimental using colors that melt at varying temperatures that create an exciting variety of optical movement. The effect is very impressionistic and creates a symphony of textural movement. The Murrini Roundel series are completely unique in the world of stained glass.   The window is set in a wood frame suitable for hanging or installed in an architectural opening.

Large Suntracker

SOLD!

The Large Suntracker window is the latest in the Suntracker series that feature a three dimension visual experience. The window is composed entirely in prismatic and dichroic glasses that not only provide a pleasing design and color palette but also project a “hot” image of bands of color and rainbow arcs onto the floor as the sun moves throughout the day. The third dimension of design is created by the twelve scientific prisms in the center of the window that project overlapping rainbows on the wall and ceiling that change position through the course of the day as the sun tracks across the sky. The effect is most pronounced in the winter when the sun tracks lower culminating in a spectacular streak of light and color across the ceiling that is over 30 feet long.

Prismatic Rounds

28.5" x 28.5"

SOLD!

The Prismatic Rounds window uses bottoms of serving plates and bowls surrounded by faceted glass jewels made in Germany sprinkled between. The remaining areas between the plates and jewels are filled with custom dichroic glass made by applying dichroic coatings on colored glass to produce weird spectrums of color. The dichroic glass also causes migration of color around the window as the prismatic objects capture color from the outside world, and the dichroic glass shifts the colors to match the captured colors.

Jumble

17.5" x 18"

Jumble windows have a long and rich history dating after The Reformation, and then later post WWI and WWII when many beautiful stained glass windows were severely damaged and the remnants collected and later reassembled as a mosaic.  My take on a Jumble window uses pieces that were left from restoration projects and combined from sample pieces and experiments from my own new commission works and some found glass objects. This Jumble features Dr Kilmer, John Paul Jones, Batman, Dwight D Eisenhower, Jerry Garcia, a Celtic couple toasting, Einstein, Poe and John F Kennedy. It comes ready for hanging in a lead frame.

Green Roundel

19" x 19"

SOLD!

The Green Roundel panel features a custom made emerald green roundel with a double optic twist. The roundel is bordered with hand blown glass in aurora and gold ruby color on a field of hand blown midnight blue glass. In the background are four custom made Tiffany reproduction jewels in aurora and gold ruby colors and an outer border of light amber streaky hand blown German glass. The corners feature hand polished prismatic amethyst jewels with the panel set in a lead frame ready for hanging.

Ruby Fish Tet

29.5" x 31.5"

The Ruby Fish Tet window was created by using a combination of traditional stained glass, and found object glass for the fish and the coral reef. The found objects used are serving platters, flattened bowls, and snack plates. The "Tet" in the title refers to a tetradict color formulae, which utilizes four colors to compliment the central red fish.

Baluch Rug

Approximately 3' x 5'

The Baluch Rug window was created to capture the spirit of fiber arts/rugs in glass and to push into new territories of complexity.  This window is a literal translation of a handmade Baluch Persian rug, whose hallmark is typically small rugs with whimsy, bright unexpected colors and lively playful patterns. All glass used is flashed glass (a thin veneer of color on top of a clear glass). The flower patterns in the center were originally solid colored glass; all color except the piping pattern that defines the flower lines was etched leaving the clear glass beneath. The flowers themselves were further rendered using colored glass paints and stains. Calligraphy pens were used to painstakingly pixelate the extremely detailed line pattern during the design process while the weave pattern was etched into the back of the glass, with glass paint pushed into the etching. The edge was purposely left "soft" and undulating like a rug would be.

The resulting exquisite glass “duplicate” of this rug carries every minute detail and all the vibrant colors of the original rug but has the added bonus of being “backlit” by sunlight making the details, design and colors even more beautiful.

Purple Roundel

15" Diameter

SOLD!

The Purple Roundel panel features a custom hand blown roundel in the center with a field of complimentary greens with a border of hand blown German glass in aurora and gold ruby colors. It comes ready for hanging in a lead frame.

Ornamental Deco

24.5" x 54.5"

Two panels available

The Ornamental Deco windows are composed of prismatic glasses that, when set in a sunny window, project bands of light and unique spectrum rainbow patterns from colored prismatic jewels. The clear ribbed glass in the background is patterned after the Luxfer Prismatic Glass invented by Frank Lloyd Wright to create diffuse bands of light. When set in any environmental orientation the glass will capture the color and movement of anything outside the window. The windows can be set in either a horizontal or vertical orientation and are installed in wood frames suitable for hanging or installation in an architectural opening.

Price displayed is for one panel.

Green Bottom

with Lavender Border

28" x 25.5"

SOLD!

The Green Bottoms with Lavender Border window is part of the “Houseware Graveyard Series” windows whose primary glass is rescued from the mundane life of serving bowls, platters, goblets, lids, jars and other general household items. The “found objects” used in this series provide a unique field of textures far beyond what is commercially available for stained glass use. The texture of a piece of glass bends light depending on its irregular or cut surface. Assembling the variety of these surfaces creates a jewel-like symphony of textural movement. The limited availability of these types of objects makes each window unique and a one of a kind work of art.  This particular window is comprised of a variety of highly textured serving plates, wine bottle bottoms, stemware bottoms and faceted stained glass jewels. The background is made from an assortment of textured hand-blown glass and the border is composed of several different patterns of pale lavender “Depression Glass” serving platters.

Green Bottom

Multi-Color Border

30" x 28"

SOLD!

The Green Bottom with Multi-Color Border window is part of the “Houseware Graveyard Series” windows whose primary glass is rescued from the mundane life of serving bowls, platters, goblets, lids, jars and other general household items. The “found objects” used in this series provide a unique field of textures far beyond what is commercially available for stained glass use. The limited availability of these types of objects makes each window unique and a one of a kind work of art.  This window is comprised of highly textured old glass bottles, vases, serving plates and stemware bottoms along with a variety of antique pressed glass jewels and objects. The background is made from hand-blown Lambert’s reamy-textured glass and the multi-colored border is made in a trellis pattern.

Beetle Window

22.25" x 23.5"

SOLD!

This Beetle Window is the first of a series of insect windows made from my hand blown roundels. The body of the “Beetle” is created using a hand blown roundel, the eyes have an actual insect eye image photo sandblasted into them, and the border features larvae and other insect images. The background consists of two layers of glass; the front layer is a pale lavender blown glass with the leg and antennae painted and fired with traditional glass paints, and the bottom layer is fracture streamer glass representing foliage. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts style of the design, the window is set into a quarter sawn white oak frame.

Gold Ruby Swirl

16" x 16"

The Gold Ruby Swirl panel features a custom made hand blown roundel in the center colored with gold oxide creating the striking ruby color. The roundel is bordered with four custom made Tiffany reproduction jewels on a field of green and a light green border. It comes ready for hanging in a lead frame.

Opalescent Landscape

27" x 30"

SOLD!

Opalescent Landscape is a studio piece I did as part of a recent "Demo talk" at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. The demonstration was about the construction materials and techniques used to create Tiffany or LaFarge windows. The design was based on a turn of the century pen and ink drawing and I created the design over thirty years ago.

City Sisyphus

24.5" x 29.75"

SOLD!

City Sisyphus pays homage to the work ethic and meaning found in a life of work and labor. Sisyphus is pushing his gear, and stands on the "human" buildings of this city. The tenement buildings are rendered in a variety of colors and ornament. Some of the windows resemble faces and have personality. The structures above the tenements are the manufacturing buildings of today's high tech industry. The window patterns and decoration are rigid and ordered. The buildings of high finance reach into the sky and the textured glass glistens jewel-like as the sun strikes the window.

Amber Roundels

25.5" x 37.25"

The Amber Roundels window was constructed from small jewels and hand-blown roundels. The two smallest roundels and all jewels were hand-made in Germany and I created the remaining hand-blown roundels at Avon Place Glass in Cambridge MA. Knowing that I could create more unique custom roundels than are commercially available is what motivated me to start blowing glass.  The color range of amber, aurora and red highlight the textural movement within the roundels, especially in the large 11” roundel in the upper central area.

Suntracker Idol

24" x 52"

SOLD!

The Suntracker Idol window utilizes prismatic glass to project light and color into a room. The center column of the window features a small reeded glass that projects shafts of white and colored light while the two lines of bevels send angled, segmented light patterns. The central strip of glass is optically clear dichroic glass that projects a vivid strip of color that changes color as the angle of the sun shifts. The large square piece (angled) at the top of the shaft is a polished antique lighting fixture lens that works like a Fresnel lens, capturing the image of the outside world upside down and reversed.

Resurrection

23" x 31.5"

The Resurrection window is both amusing and sentimental. The window depicts stained glass workers removing a diamond "temporary" window and installing a religious window. The imagery often inspires lively philosophical discussions about God and Man.

Tribute to PB&J featuring the

Mr. Peanut Chorus Line

19.5" x 26.5"

The inspiration for the Tribute to PB&J featuring the Mr. Peanut Chorus Line  window is rooted in the iconographic status of both Mr. Peanut® and everyone’s favorite childhood sandwich, the peanut butter and jelly. At first glance the window appears to be a pleasing design featuring grapes and leaves on a field of clear textured glass. Closer examination reveals the angled Mr. Peanuts® seemingly dancing in celebration lorded over by the exquisite (ashtray bottom) Mr. Peanut® at the top of the window.
