2012 SUMMER CLASSES BEGINNER I - Intro to Stained Glass Description: This course focuses on establishing sound fundamental skills in glass cutting techniques and assembling stained glass panels using the copper foil method. Students will learn panel design, pattern making, layout, types of glass, and types of framing while completing one or more projects. Pre-requisite: This course is open to those with limited or no experience. Sessions: 5 weeks - Mondays (7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6) Time: 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Makeup or Additional Sessions: Sunday - 8/12/2012 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm may be used for a free makeup session or purchased for an additional $25 for extra bench time. Cost: $250 (includes glass). Tools and Supplies: First-time Beginner I students may use the Studio's tools and supplies. For subsequent classes, students are required to use their own tools and supplies. For your convenience, a Basic Starter Kit containing quality brand tools and supplies is available for purchase through the Studio for $195. A list of required tools and supplies is provided below. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BEGINNER II - Fusing Description: This course will focus on making decorative fused panels or objects to be included in a traditionally constructed stained glass panel. Fusing of glass offers a range of imagery from representational to abstract forms in transparent or opalescent glasses. The variety of fusing applications will also be reviewed in the class including bowl and plate fusing, jewelry and objects for 3D construction. We will also be reviewing how to ”paint” with glass frits, stringers and cut glass. Pre-requisite: This course is open to the hobbyist or professional with established skills in fabricating a stained glass window. Sessions: 5 weeks - Tuesdays (7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7) Time: 10:15 am - 1:30 pm or 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Makeup of Additional Sessions: Sunday - 8/12/2012 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm can be used for a free makeup session or purchased for an additional $25 for extra bench time. Cost: $250 (Materials cost will be $30) Tools and Supplies: Students are required to use their own tools and supplies. For your convenience, supplies and tools are available for purchase through the Studio, including a Basic Starter Kit for $195. REQUIRED TOOLS & SUPPLIES: Carbide Wheel Glass Cutter, Breaking Pliers, Grozing Pliers, Soldering Iron (100-watt), Temperature Control, Tip Cleaner, Lead Knife, Lead Dyke, Lead Vise, Plastic FID, Spool of Solder (60/40), Spool of Copper Foil (1/4"), and Safety Glasses. BASIC STARTER KIT ($195): Fletcher Carbide Wheel Glass Cutter (134 degrees), Leponitt Breaking Pliers, Knipex Narrow Soft-nosed Grozing Pliers, Inland 100-watt Deluxe Soldering Iron, Mini Phaser Temperature Control, Tip Cleaner, The Pro Lead Knife, Dragon Lead Dyke, Lead Vise, Plastic FID, 1 lb. 60/40 Spool of Solder (Mastercraft or Canfield), 1/4" 1.25 mill Spool of Copper Foil, Safety Glasses.
